The Auditor General invites applications for the post of Principal
Auditor with the National Audit Office.
Applicants wishing to apply for the post must be holders of the
Certificate to Practice Auditing.
The post carries an annual salary of €20,109.48 rising by annual
increments of €456.56 to €21,479.15. A performance bonus may be
awarded at the end of the year.
The Principal Auditor works under the direct supervision of the
Audit Manager. This position involves directing the financial and
compliance audit of various institutions and agencies of government,
to report effectively thereon and to formulate recommendations.
Incumbents will also be involved in the planning of the annual audit
plan as well as the planning of individual audits. Audit assignments
require the exercise of considerable independent judgment in
interpreting and analyzing facts and figures.
The position also involves the supervision of other staff members
within their audit team, as well as planning the work schedules for
themselves and their subordinates. Following an audit, incumbents
may also be required to make representations expressing opinions and
recommendations on the adequacy and effectiveness of systems.
Applicants must have the ability to communicate verbally and in
writing in the Maltese and English Languages.
The employment, which is subject to a probationary period of one
year, is on a full-time basis and is for a definite three year
period which may be renewed subject to satisfactory performance.
Qualifications and experience claimed must be supported by
certificates and/or testimonials (photocopies to be included with
applications, originals to be produced for verification at the
interview).
It is the responsibility of applicants, in possession of
qualifications awarded by foreign Universities/tertiary education
institutions, to produce an evaluation report on the comparability
of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition
Information Centre (MQRIC) within the Ministry of Education,
Culture, Youth and Sports. A copy of the said report issued by the
MQRIC, or the designated authority in case of warrants, should be
attached to the application, with the original presented at the
interview. Candidates not in possession of this report may still
apply, provided that they submit a copy of the report to the NAO as
soon as it becomes available.
Eligible applicants will be interviewed by a Selection Board.
The selected applicant will undergo a medical examination to
ascertain that he/she is medically fit.
Candidates should submit to the Manager, Finance and Administration,
National Audit Office, Notre Dame Ravelin, Floriana VLT2000 a
letter of application and a copy of their curriculum vitae. A Police
Conduct Certificate recently issued is also to be submitted.
Applications are to reach the National Audit Office by Friday,
12th September 2008. Late applications will not be considered.
